How do I find my purpose in life? Find it here and now!
The Void There are times in our lives when we may ask ourselves “How do I find my purpose in life?” or “What is my purpose?”. These and many other questions such as “What do I need to do now to make my life better?” or even “What do I need to ‘get or have’ in order to feel better?” generally arise when we are feeling unhappy, lost, a sense of meaninglessness or a lack of fulfilment. And so, we are looking to fill a void. Those questions are also future based i.e. they pre-suppose that once I have found that something or have that something that all will be…

Tips on how to love yourself
I was compelled to write today about self love and self care. And more specifically, I wanted to touch on “what is self love or self care?” and to give you some tips on how to love yourself. I will attempt to keep it brief though knowing how I write that could be difficult. Nevertheless, I will exercise self love and self care even in relation to this in allowing myself to fully express myself. When people think of self love or self care they often think of things such as pampering sessions or buying oneself something special. I want to expand your thinking a little here and include some…

What is Zen Meditation? How to Awaken
Before I elaborate on “What is Zen Meditation?”, I think its pertinent to explain its origins and its relationship to Buddhism. What is Buddhism? The Buddhist path is a personal experience of achieving deep and long-lasting happiness by gaining wisdom and a mind free of negative emotions. Meditation is a means of accomplishing this (Venerable Thubten Lhundrup, 2004). Who founded Buddhism? Approximately 2,500 years ago, Siddhartha Gautama was born in the foothills of Nepal. At the age of 29, Siddhartha took up the life of an ascetic. After training in meditation for six…

The Power of Now Book Review – When the student is ready!
On the shelf for 20 years I picked up my first copy of the best-selling book The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle around 20 years ago which was about the time it was first published. Back then, I have to say that I didn’t get it or perhaps I wasn’t ready. Perhaps I hadn’t suffered enough. Who knows, needless to say I put it aside and there it stayed in my bookshelf. It was some 15 or so years later that I picked up my dusty copy of The Power of Now again and this time it spoke to me. I was definitely in a time of crisis and…

What is presence? And, what is the power of presence?
What is presence? To know it is to experience it! I would like to give you a straightforward answer, but unfortunately I can’t. And, in order to tell you what the ‘power of presence’ is I have to begin with presence itself. Let me explain why it’s not that straightforward though. Many are cautious in explaining what presence is and this is actually justifiable and reasonable. Presence is something that occurs beyond the intellect, that is to say beyond the mind and so it stands that it cannot be explained with the intellect and more specifically with language. Language in defining or explaining presence is fundamentally inadequate. To truly ‘know’ presence…
