Give yourself permission to stop!
We live in a world where ‘doing’ is encouraged and even applauded both in the literal and figurative sense. To not be doing is somehow frowned upon and unacceptable. Through societal and familial constructs we then find this unacceptable to ourselves. Ever felt the feeling of not having something planned for the weekend and the fear of being asked what you have planned and if you are asked, the terrible and shameful feeling that ensues of somehow not being good enough and the associated negative thoughts about yourself. That’s just one example. I’m here to say that it’s ok to not be doing and sometimes it’s absolutely necessary and sometimes…

What are the 4 noble truths? A Simple Explanation
No conversion here I want to predicate my article by saying that I am not here to convert anyone. Quite the opposite. I am of no particular faith and so have no ulterior motive other than to share information that people have expressed an interest to know more about. My intention is to help. Often talking in religious or spiritual terms can result in intense reactions from people of differing beliefs and so I tread carefully. However, The 4 Noble Truths are of course teachings of the Buddha (someone who has achieved a perfect state of enlightenment). And of course, as such my explanation of ‘What are the 4 Noble Truths?’…

What can I do to be happy? Here’s 3 easy steps!
The Non-Action List Approach “What can I do to be happy?” I hear you say. You’re not alone. I’ve said it myself. You are probably expecting a list of the top 10 things you can ‘do’ to be happy. And, I could give you a list, but I’m not going to and let me explain why. Why? Because anything I give you to do, like socialise more, join a club, take up an activity might work in the short term but it won’t necessarily bring you lasting happiness. It will be brief and when complete you will be left with once again feeling empty or unfulfilled and possibly at the…

What is mindfulness practice? The path to happiness!
First, let’s start with a definition of what mindfulness is before I provide some examples of mindfulness practice and also why we do it. So, what is mindfulness anyway? Mindfulness is about being aware, having a conscious awareness in the moment. I don’t get it. What do you mean conscious awareness? To elaborate further, conscious awareness is about being present here and now and being consciously aware of thoughts, feelings and sensations in the body. Why practice mindfulness? Usually people move towards meditation or mindfulness due to being stressed, unhappy on some level or to improve something in their lives – even if unconsciously. We practice mindfulness because most of us…
