How to change your life

Top 10 Books on How to Change your Life!

Mind and Beyond

When I was researching the Top 10 Books on How to Change your Life I really considered the following.

As a coach and as someone who has been on their own personal development journey, I write a lot of articles about mindset, how to change your thinking and behaviour to change your life, have the life you want, be all you can be and access your pure potential.

Much of what I write either focuses on mastering or managing your mind or is about going beyond your mind in order to find greater happiness, contentment, peace, calm and fulfilment.

This may seem conflicting but I think that we need what we need at a given point in time and this changes.  It was certainly that way for me.

So, with that, I’ve compiled a recommended list of my Top 10 Books on How to Change your Life whether it be at the mind (thought) level or going beyond that and deeper within to transform your life.

What resonates with you now is what is right for you now.

In no particular order. Let’s get started!

Top 10 Recommended Books

1. Clarity: Clear Mind, Better Performance, Bigger Results (Jamie Smart)

This book is a real eye-opener and I loved it.  It’s all about inside out thinking and learning from a place of no-mind.  That is to say to put aside the intellect for a while when we are reading the information.  Instead, we allow intuition and deeper levels of consciousness to prevail.  This can provide clarity.

Then, when we gain understanding through knowing rather than knowledge, we are actually more compelled to act.

“A powerful, positive book that can help you to achieve more than you ever thought possible, in every area.” Brian Tracy

A testimony from Brian Tracy says a lot.  He is hugely successful and has had longevity in the area of training and development of individuals and organisations.

The concepts provided are game changers.

2. The Power of Intention – Learning to co-create your world your way (Dr Wayne Dyer)

The use of the word co-create is interesting isn’t it.  This suggests that we’re not just trying to do something alone.  The book talks about intention as a force and that everyone and everything is connected to this invisible force.  It looks at how you can harness that energy and how it can power your intention.

I certainly believe that everything and everyone is connected, and it is all about energy.

The book comes with an intention guide with specific ways to apply the co-creating principles in daily life.

Dr Dyer may no longer be with us but his teachings are still valuable and powerful.  His personal story is compelling and shows his own continued transformation.

This book also comes in CD format which I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed.

3. Think and Grow Rich (Napoleon Hill)

This book has sold over 15 million copies and has to be up there with one of the best books on success of all time.

Napoleon Hill researched more than 40 millionaires to find out what they did to become successful.

The gist of the book is that thoughts become things, we must control our thoughts and we must have desire with a definite purpose and that desire must be ‘burning’ to accomplish that definite purpose.

This is a must have!

4. Awaken the Giant Within  (Tony Robbins)

Well, what can I say about Tony Robbins?

He has a plethora of products and books out there.  He’s successful for a reason right, so what do they say to do if you want to be successful?  Do what that person is doing, copy them.

I’ve been coached myself by a Tony Robbins coach, I’ve attended Unleash the Power Within with great results including walking on fire and I have his book Awaken the Giant Within.

So yes, if you want an action-based, passion filled approach, this is a no brainer.

5. Change your thinking change your life

How to unlock your full potential for success and achievement (Brian Tracy)

Brian Tracy has been around for some 30 years or so and has had huge success and continues to.  So again, you mimic those that are successful.

Thinking is powerful, but we can change our thoughts.  The title speaks for itself.

Comes in paperback, audio and kindle.

6. Rich Dad, Poor Dad (Robert Kiyosaki)

This book has the acclaim of being the #1 personal finance book of all time.  It’s a compelling read with study session sections. It’s a myth buster and challenges many beliefs around money.  It’s a starting point for anyone looking to gain control of their financial future.

It looks at the things we aren’t taught about money.  Most of us are taught to work to earn money rather than have money work us.

Great lessons and insights.

7. NLP in 21 Days (Harry Alder and Beryl Heather)

How to change your life with neuro linguistic programming

This book covers the full international syllabus for Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner training.  NLP has the power to improve all aspects of life, from personal relationships and career to selling and negotiating.

It covers topics such as knowing what you really want, changing your world, the power of language and strategies for success.

8. The Motivation Manifesto: 9 Declarations to Claim Your Personal Power (Brendon Burchard)

The Motivation Manifesto is written by a #1 New York Times Bestselling Author and is a call to reclaim our lives and to find our own personal freedom.

The book covers freedom, fear and motivation, the 9 declarations and looks beyond mere motivation to a purposeful and meaningful life.

Beyond the Mind

The next three go to deeper levels of consciousness to experience a new way of being, living and experiencing.  It is here that “sustainable” peace, calm, aliveness and joy is possible.

8. The Power of Now – Eckhart Tolle

The Power of Now is a #1 New York Times best seller with over 2,000,000 copies sold.

Please read my review – The Power of Now Book Review – When the student is ready!

You can also purchase Practising the Power of Now: Essential Teachings, Meditations and Exercises from the Power of Now as a companion book.

9. A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose (Eckhart Tolle)

This is on Oprah’s Book Club list.  When I first read this book, I found myself nodding from the very first page. I seemed to recognise the truth of what Eckhart was writing that went beyond intellectualising.

Eckhart Tolle’s intent behind this book is to bring about a shift in consciousness of the reader, that is to awaken the reader.

It is for those looking for self-improvement and for those that see that personal spirituality and its unfolding or awakening is key to a new earth and a new you. It’s about finding yourself and your inner purpose.  But, it’s not all about the internal.  It’s also about the ‘doing’ and outward movement.

10. The Seat of the Soul (Gary Zukav)

This too is a #1 New York Times Bestseller and is acclaimed by the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Maya Angelou.

The Seat of the Soul will change the way you see the world, interact with other people and understand your actions and motivations.  Zukav shows you how to infuse your everyday activities with meaning and purpose.

The book also includes a study guide.

I really am at a point in my life where I am searching for my purpose, and despite you have provided so many great resources to help me now I am feeling overwhelmed where to begin my research. Maybe you can help me narrow down which of these books would be my best choice to begin my journey with, I am feeling confused right now where to begin with so many good books to choose from?

    • Martine Brooks

Hi Jeff, I would probably suggest starting with The Power of Now, A New Earth or Clarity. These are gentler approaches (particularly the first two) and can provide a sense of peace and calm and reduce stress and overwhelm providing space and stillness to obtain clarity.
